Mice in the compost bin

Over the past seven years, our composting system rather trite to say that all animal-based foods were not thrown in. No rotation, no irrigation, balance and brown / green. But there were consequences for our reluctance to accept the laws of fertilizer ….

Knowing that my husband ended up taking off our compost bin and mix the pile of dirt, I took my children outside to reveal a pile of rich, composted soil. Unfortunately it was a pretty traumatic scene. Dozens of young mice were pouring out of the bin and flee for their lives when my husband drove them across the yard, occasionally clubbing moving targets by the end of a shovel. Not exactly the moment the Mother Earth.

Now we have a cat, but I’m not sure you can keep the mice away from a constant source of nutrition. Does anyone else have this problem? It happened twice and I have to pass some kind of worm farm or Bokashi bin that works inside. Any success with one of these systems?
